UFOs and Corrie Fans
Pop culture has caught up with itself. On the March 9, 2012, episode of the world's longest-running TV soap opera, Coronation Street, Julie's "new guy" Brian (the school's headmaster) reveals he is a ufologist and takes her on a skywatching expedition to look for UFOs... although she has other nighttime activities in mind.
Okay, so it's just aired in Canada, which is about 7 months behind the British episodes at this point. (It was 10 months behind, but Canada is slowly catching up with England.) Brian, unfortunately, is portrayed as a pompous intellectual, essentially a caricature of UFO zealots who are convinced that alien contact is imminent and that using flashlights to signal the incoming spacecraft is a ufologist's true goal. Let's hope Julie convinces him otherwise.
