UFOs in Saskatchewan

I just got back from Saskatchewan, where I had been booked to speak at The Extraordinary Fair, a paranormal symposium organized by the Calling Lakes Paranormal Group. The two women in charge are Jan and Amy Drummond, very dedicated individuals who wanted to bring a weekend of displays and presentations on paranormal topics to the Regina area.

Jan had organized previous fairs in her own town of Fort Qu'Appelle, with great success. In 2011, a remarkable 400 people attended. Moving it to Regina, a larger city, seemed a good idea, but numbers were much lower than in previous years.

Nevertheless, those who came by found a fairly large number of display booths and speakers throughout the weekend. About 50 people came to hear my illustrated talk about UFOs in Saskatchewan.

A story about the symposium and my presentation there appeared in the Regina Leader-Post a few days later:

I told the crowd that about 600 UFO reports have been filed from Saskatchewan during the past 25 years. In 2011, there were 31 reports. Most were simply lights in the sky, and nothing too interesting.

Historically, though, there have been some really odd things reported in Saskatchewan, including the notable Edwin Fuhr CE2 case from 1974, where several upside-down bowl-shaped objects were seen to rise up from a field near Langenburg, leaving behind swirled circles in the grass. (The first modern "crop circles," reported and investigated several years before the crop circle phenomenon officially "began" in England in about 1980.)

There are also many cases of UFOs being seen and reported by military personnel and RCMP in the province, and the official files on the cases available for study.

Finally, it should be noted that in 1960, a U-2 spy plane made an emergency landing in Saskatchewan (never reported to the public)

and in 1968, a large chunk of almost pure titanium was found in the province, too, described at the time as the largest piece of a de-orbited spacecraft ever found on Earth.

Keep an eye out, Saskatchewan!
